The 12 Days of College Break
I don’t know what you do when you get stressed, but I tend to over eat, drink, or obsessively clean my house. This year I was determined to break old habits.
The other day while I was chatting with my friend Lou, I mentioned that my daughter was on her way home from her first semester of college with her new boyfriend in tow.
“Oh my God,” what are you going to do?” she asked.
Now, another thing you should know about me is that when I get really, really stressed I curse or sing. Sometimes both…
“Oh my f-ing G…, I don’t know,” I sang, then full-out broke into song, to the tune of the 12 days of Christmas. (I’m nothing if not festive.)
“On the first day of college break my daughter gave to me… the news of a brand new HE!!!!…”
We laughed, but the song kept coming.
“Hey wait! I think I’ve got something!” I hung up and began to compose.
Thirty minutes and one take later, this is the result. It’s my little holiday gift to other parents of college kids who are in that challenging period where your children are still living with you (at least during break), but they’ve had that taste of freedom and nothing will ever be the same.
Hopefully whatever they bring your way, you’ll all find something to laugh about.
Alert: I said one take, right? This is a rough cut. And it may not be suitable for young ears, as I may or may not have stumbled into an f-bomb here or there.
